In this post I will make an attempt to solve a problem that bothers thousands of home owners around the world, that is, the issue of cloudy mirrors.

Let us say you own a full length mirror and is tarnished and cloudy well take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. I used to own one myself; the family next door has been there too. Like me at some point, you might have tried everything you can to clean it to no avail.

Now what if you do not want to replace it for one reason or the other? How do you go about cleaning it? As a decorative mirror junkie let me provide some few tips you can try out. These suggestions can apply to all kinds including large, oversized, compact, framed, unframed including tri fold wardrobe mirror.

The most obvious way is to clean them with water. Just warm the water or even to boil and then try to clean it. Keep the water pure i.e. without adding any additives. If you own plexy glass then you can be sure this will work pretty well.

Another option is to simply use vinegar and newspaper. This could work especially if some one once added some smeared the mirror with some oil.

You can try to use some spray cleaners like windex. One thing I must mention here is that spray cleaners are good for some oil rubbed bronze framed oval bathroom mirrors and not for others. So you should not despair if that particular spray does not work on your mirror.

If all these tips fail then it probably means there are other reasons why it does not respond. For example, if the problem lies with the silver on the back of the mirror then trying to clean it will not work . You can get it re-silvered but I would recommend you let go of it and find a new one – unless of course it has some sentimental value attached to it.
