Toys That Were Once So Popular
It’s true to say that toys have come on a long way over the last 100 years. We have all but said goodbye to the traditional, individually handmade toys and now embraced mass-produced electrical toys that have lights and sounds and eat batteries like grains of rice. Let’s take a look at some of the most iconic traditional toys and why they were loved so much
Rag dolls. These toys are beautifully simplistic. Once upon a time every little girl had a rag doll and they would go everywhere the child went. Among their most appealing features was the ability to wash them simply by dunking them in warm water and not having to worry about bits breaking or falling off. Nowadays kids prefere babies with electrically moving parts and voices. You’re not meant to wash them in the same way but I urge you to try.
Wooden bikes. Due to bike makers wanting to make the biggest profit they can, most bikes these days are constructed of metal or some form of plastic. You cannot beat however a hand-crafted bike made out of high quality hardwood. wooden bikes could take a knock or two without breaking and always maintained a good looking quality. On top of this, having an old wooden bike a room added a lot of character to it and people even bought them just for their aesthetic value
Rocking horse. Similar to a bike made out of wood, a wooden rocking horse looked great in any house and also lasted generations due their quality and simple design. The most appealing part about a rocking horse however is that you child will be content with riding it all day and you don’t have to fork out for a real one and all the things that go with it. Rocking horse makers are hard to find these days but if you can find a good one then its well worth purchasing one.
